A debated plan to explore and drill for oil near the Pinnacles National Park in San Benito County has both environmental and oil supporters pushing back against each other’s claims about what the project means for the county and environment.
San Benito Rising, a local environmental group, will be holding a rally called "Draw The Line: Don't Frack the Pinnacles" at the east entrance of Pinnacles National Park on Sept. 21 starting at 9:30 a.m.
The House of Representatives today passed Congressman Sam Farr’s (D-Carmel) bill to elevate the 26,000 acres of Pinnacles National Monument to a National Park. The bipartisan bill, H.R. 3641, the Pinnacles National Park Act, co-sponsored by Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA), recognizes and preserves the diverse ecosystems, geology and cultural history of the area by conferring National Park status. Additionally, the bill renames the Pinnacles Wilderness as the Hain Wilderness.

Since Monterey’s county parks are dog-friendly, it seemed like a perfect time to go to Jack’s Peak and see what everybody has been talking about.
