The 90 days of free parking – through Feb. 6 – in downtown Hollister is available in city parking lots only. Street parking time limits are still in effect during the “free parking” months and are being enforced. The city council approved a resolution that suspended the time limits in the city’s downtown lots for the holiday shopping season on Nov. 5. But the timed parking enforcement remains on city streets that are posted with time limits.
A resident called the Red Phone this week to question why large trucks were still parking for long periods of time - "all day, every day" in some areas - despite city rules enacted in November prohibiting it.
Recreational vehicle rules that are acknowledged by City of Hollister staff to be "difficult for the public to locate and understand" are being re-evaluated with an eye toward removing confusion.
The City of Hollister has added or clarified parking restrictions near Sunnyslope and Gabilan Hills schools and on Ladd Lane, where large trucks have made it a habit of parking in the pedestrian right-of-way.
