County supervisors Tuesday agreed to extend a moratorium against cutting mature trees here for another 10 months and 15 days, but they instructed staff officials to prepare a permanent tree ordinance with a goal of approval within six months.

At the request of Supervisor Jerry Muenzer, the county board is set to weigh an urgency ordinance to halt cutting down of protected trees, a move in response to recent quarreling between Ridgemark Golf & Country Club and neighboring homeowners.

Civil War Days: The San Benito County Historical Park will host Civil War Days Sept. 15 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with re-enactors filling the historical roles of townspeople and soldiers from the era. The annual event will feature battle scenes and a chance to walk around the Historical Village to see what life was like during the period. Admission is $10.
