Kids rock the stage

As the temperature kicked up last week so did the anticipation for the fun-filled week of Kids Rule Theatre Camp. Kristy Burchard, the founder and director of the program, and her team of volunteering teens and adults were ready to rock another summer of phenomenal performances. After much preparation, everyone was ready to kick off the program’s 11th year at Sacred Heart Parish School. Many of the people who helped make this program possible can be described as one big theatrical family. I was extremely fortunate to be part of this family once again as a camp counselor for one of the groups.

Sacred Heart students take on trash duty in river

A small crew of Sacred Heart Parish School students, their parents and two teachers gathered to do a San Benito river bed clean up Saturday. San Benito High School chemistry teacher Mike Carroll, his grandson Riley, Sacred Heart science teacher Jim Ostdick and the other volunteers removed 1,000 pounds of trash from the river bed.

SBSC Annual Members’ Choice Awards: The San Benito Stage Company will host its Annual Members’ Choice Awards Feb. 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the Granada Theater. Doors will open with refreshments served at 6 p.m. The annual event is an opportunity to thank volunteers, supporters and participants for their involvement throughout the year. Briefs: Grant meeting for local artists

The Creative Work Fund will host an informational seminar at Blak Sage Gallery, Jan. 24, from 6:30 -7:30 p.m., on its grant application process. Letters of inquiry will be due March 1, with up to $650,000 available with grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000.

Community Foundation announces endowment match challenge

The Community Foundation for San Benito County announced its Endowment Match Challenge. A donor has provided $150,000 in order to help build endowment funds and create a lasting legacy in the community.
