More than a week after a small dog named “River” was rescued by a Gilroy man from Uvas Creek with a brick tied to its hind legs, the Gilroy Police Department and Humane Society of the Central Coast – which recently roused concerns from Hollister police as well – and are at odds about how and when the little dog should be adopted.
Local authorities are right to be skeptical of a new animal rescue organization in the area - due to its lacking communication and the appearance it intends to declare some level of policing authority - but should avoid any contractual arrangements and anything else that might play into its hands down the road.
The founder of the new, Hollister-based Humane Society of the Central Coast has been met with some skepticism from local law enforcement officials, who say that while his goal is noble, he must follow proper procedures before the agency becomes an animal rescue resource.
