San Benito High’s boys soccer team was rewarded for its strong season when coaches recently voted a trio of Balers to the All-Monterey Bay League Pacific Division First Team.

During a strong 2011-12 girls soccer campaign a year ago, the Balers finished achingly close to a Central Coast Section berth, missing the cut by only one game.

Despite 21 points from Hyram Miskin, the Balers lost their first league game Wednesday, falling to Seaside 60-57.

With San Benito trailing 1-0 to Gilroy, Berenice Bribiesca wasn’t going to let the Balers fall another game behind in the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division standings.

After dispatching Monterey 51-30 earlier in the week, the Balers came back to claim the Elite 8 championship in Hollister on Saturday.

Through 20 games, the San Benito boys basketball team has proven to be the best team in the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division. And in Hollister on Wednesday, the Balers showed exactly why.

Through nearly 20 games, the San Benito boys basketball team has still yet to show any signs of slowing down from its torrid pace. The Balers won again Friday, defeating Monterey 45-42 on the road to move to 17-2 overall.

After San Benito's 2-0 victory over Watsonville, forward Illanna Woods, who scored one goal, talked with the Free Lance about the game and the team this year.

After expensing five first-half shots and multiple opportunities in front of the Watsonville net, the San Benito girls soccer team recieved second half goals by Berenice Bribiesca and Illanna Woods to escape with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday.
