Volleyball: Balers can’t finish Cougars

Experience won over youth as the Cougars rebounded from a Game 1 loss to beat the host Haybalers in four games.

This year’s San Benito High girls soccer team could make the case it was the best team in school history. The Haybalers won their first-ever Central Coast Section playoff game (not counting a forfeit victory against Palo Alto three years ago) before falling to Presentation 4-0 in a Division I quarterfinal on Feb. 27.

San Benito High wrestlers Michael Camacho and Kira Emma earned berths to the CIF State Championships after strong performances over the weekend. Camacho, a junior, took third place in the 182-pound weight class. The junior standout, fresh off a win in the Monterey Bay League Championships, won his first first three matches via pinfall before dropping a 9-1 major decision to Monte Vista Christian’s Lucas Olgiati.
