Is disrespect a common thread among teens?

Our local movie theaters – Gilroy Platinum Theater and Morgan Hill CineLux - are a couple of my favorite places to spend my extra time (and money). Baler Summer Nights: The Baler Backers Athletic Organization is holding its annual dinner/dance and auction fundraiser in support of San Benito High School’s Haybaler Athletic Program, Aug. 18, at the San Benito County Fairgrounds/Bolado Park, from 6 p.m. to midnight, with the dinner served between 7 and 8 p.m. Entertainment is being provided by local band favorite Soul Kiss. Tickets for the 21+ event are $50 each and table reservations of eight are also being accepted. There will be a Live & Silent Auction to raise funds for Baler Athletics, which has seen a severe reduction in its funding due to state budget cuts which have affected California’s school system. Local outdoor enthusiasts who fundraised a quarter of a million dollars to keep California’s second largest state park open to the public are demanding a refund if the state doesn’t allocate $20 million in recently discovered hidden funds “back to their original intended use.”

Pit bull owner may not face charges

The Gilroy Police Department may not arrest the man who fled the scene after his pit bull attacked a dachshund in the First Street Starbucks parking lot on Thursday morning, causing the small dog to be euthanized, and causing severe non-life threatening injuries to its owner.

Morgan Hill races to spend downtown improvement cash

With the long arm of the newly created Morgan Hill oversight board threatening to lay claim to what’s left of the former redevelopment agency’s 2008 bond proceeds, the city council is poised to quickly spend the remnants of the $110 million in loans to spruce up the downtown.
