Library forum focuses on commuters’ needs
The Library Action Committee is set to host a third forum on the future of the San Benito County Libraries, with this one focused on weekday commuters. The event is set for 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 25 at the San Benito County Free Library, 470 Fifth St. The moderator is Dave Wright. Invited panelists include Supervisor Margie Barrios; Councilman Victor Gomez; Free Lance Editorial Board Member Marty Richman; Salinas Library Director Elizabeth Martinez; and local mother Cathly Alameda. Chamber dinner dance
The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau’s 93rd annual awards dinner will be held at San Juan Oaks Country club at 6 p.m. Jan. 25. The chamber will be honoring the man, woman and businesses of the year at the event. There will be a silent auction and raffle. Tickets are $60 per person. Sacred Heart fundraiser
Dust off your boots and get ready to kick up your heels. The Ranch Dance & Auction, Sacred Heart Parish School’s annual February fundraiser, is set for Feb. 1 at Bolado Park. The fun starts at 5 p.m. with a no-host bar featuring local wines and beer. The famous tri-tip barbecue dinner is served from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions. The band Soul Kiss will be providing live music to dance the night away. All proceeds from this event benefit Sacred Heart Parish School. The price is $75. Stage company auditions
This January San Benito Stage Company is holding auditions for both Anne of Green Gables and Les Miserables. Anne of Green Gables is our spring children’s musical for our young actors and actresses aged 6 years old through 8th grade. ‘Fixing the Future’ at Aromas Grange
The San Benito Time Exchange (SBTE) and Aromas Grange are co-hosting a community potluck and movie, “Fixing the Future” at the Aromas Grange, 400 Rose Street, Aromas on Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. SBTE is a free service exchange network in which members provide skills and services to one another using time as a complementary currency. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has funded a team of researchers at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), and the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) to conduct scientific research into time banking. Their goal is to understand time banking practices and the role that technology plays in enabling them and to develop new innovative technologies to make it much easier to do and more popular.
