Veterans Day Parade volunteers
Applications for the 2013 Hollister Veterans Day Parade are now available.  The parade will take place at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in downtown Hollister.  Applications can be picked up in the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce office and at Hollister City Hall or call 638-6434.   There is no entry fee for this parade. Volunteers are also needed to help with the parade.  Volunteers are needed to: set up barricades, serve as Block Captains, take down barricades and serve as runners. Lights On floats
A cactus and succulent show and sale is set for Sept. 14 and Sept. 15 in the courtyard of Jardines Restaurant, 115 3rd St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 4 Sunday. Members of the group the Cactus & Succulent Society of the Monterey Bay Area will be there to answer questions on these drought resistant plants. Call (831) 758-6645 for information.
Barktoberfest dog adoptions
Hollister Police Animal Care and Services is hosting a BARK-TOBER-FEST $25 dog adoptions special, according to the Hollister Police Department.
For the month of October, all dog adoptions will be $ 25 – which includes primary vaccinations, de-worming, flea control, spaying/neutering and a microchip.

Saltshaker Theater’s ‘Polster-Heist’ show
Saltshaker Theater presents mayhem, magic and mystery at the Windhaven Ranch with the “Polter-Heist” dinner theater show. It includes “magical moments” with magician Ken Chsson and a dining experience with chef Jeff Parker. Costumes are optional, while seating is limited. It is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at Windhaven Ranch, 547 Mission Vineyard Road in San Juan Bautista. It is presented by the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. Small Steps
Residents have a great opportunity to volunteer to take a deserving child shopping for a coat and shoes. An event is set for 7 a.m. Nov. 2 in the Target parking lot. Residents can download the volunteer application at www.smallstepssbc.org or call 638-2111 for more information.

The next San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is hosting its next Business After Hours at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Dona Esther Mexican Restaurant, 25 Franklin St., San Juan Bautista.
Aromas Bands Together
Aromas musicians will kick off the holiday season with a special concert to help families in need at the second annual Aromas Bands Together event on Nov. 30 at the Aromas Grange Hall. Last year’s event raised about $3,000 for Adopt-A-Family, a programof the Aromas Grange. The event features performances from Aromas bands that volunteer their talents for this evening. Concert ticket recommended donations are $15 for adults, $10 for children. Food, beer and wine will be available for a separate charge, and we’re adding a special “Late Night” show this year at the Aromas Grill with a separate cover charge.
