Book Sale: Friends of the Library book sale will be Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the library and the Historical Society at 470 Fifth and Monterey streets. New and used books on health, mystery, religion, romance, science, Spanish, special collections and travel are available. Donated books and tapes are appreciated also. Spring Grove: The North County Joint Union School District is now registering kindergarten children for 1004-05 school year. Registration packets can be picked up at the Spring Grove School office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each school day. Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 2004. All required paper work must be on file before a child can be placed on a class list. The following are state and district requirements for incoming kindergartners: birthdate verification, CHDP examination, proof of residency and immunizations (polio, OPV or IPV, DTP/DTzP/DT/Td, MMR, hepatitis B, varicella and TB skin test.
Book Club: The first Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and first Thursday at 7 p.m. of each month the book club meets at The Wize Owl Book Store, 8060 Santa Teresa Blvd., in Gilroy. For more information, call 408-848-9090. New members are always welcome.
Hydrogeologic study: There will be a public workshop at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the City of Hollister Council Chambers, 375 Fifth Street. This is an open workshop with public input encouraged. For more information, call the Public Works-Engineering Department at 636-4340.
Benefit Drive: A benefit drive is being held to raise $10,000 for the families of P.J. Galvan and Matt Lopez. San Benito High School has already raised $6,000. Donations will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 23. Papa Murphy’s Pizza will be donating 25 percent of their profits from Thursday, Jan. 22 to help reach that goal.

CFAS Class: The American Red Cross will be holding a community first aid and safety class Saturday, Jan. 24, Saturday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 28. This class includes adult, infant and child CPR along with first aid. The cost is $50 and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For individual class prices or to register, call 636-2100.
