Steamfitting-Pipefitting: Pipe Trades Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of Santa Clara and San Benito County has a revised application availability schedule. Applications will be available on the following days in 2004: Tuesday through Thursday, July 6 through July 8; Monday through Thursday, July 12 through July 15; Monday through Thursday, July 19 through July 22.

SBC Fair: A board of directors meeting will be held at Bolado Park on March 10 in the Board Room at 6 p.m.

Seniors Council: The Advisory Council for the Area Agency on Aging for Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties will be holding public hearings to get input from the community on issues affecting seniors. Senior Legislature: If you are 60 or older, you are eligible to run for the California Senior Legislature. The Seniors Council will be conducting an election for a Senior Senator and Senior Assemblymember to represent Santa Cruz and San Benito counties. Coe Backcountry Weekend: From April 24-25, Henry W. Coe State Park will open the gate at Bell Station on Highway 152 east of Gilroy. The annual Coe Backcountry Weekend. This event allows visitors vehicle access to a remote and beautiful area. Entry for the weekend is by reservation only. Application forms are available on the Coe Park Web site (http://www.coepark.org), at park headquarters and at the libraries in Gilroy and Morgan Hill. There will only be 150 reservations available this year instead of the usual 320. All unsuccessful application forms will be returned with their checks to the applicants.

Poker Ride and Picnic: Wadi Arabian Horse Association is sponsoring a poker ride and picnic at Dinosaur Point, Pacheco State Park, off Highway 152 on Sunday, May 2. Reservations and payment due by April 26. Fees for lunch/ride/poker are $20, $15 for lunch/ride, $10 for lunch only and $10 for lunch/ride for kids under 12. AARP Driver Safety: A refresher classroom course for drivers over the age of 50. The eight-hour course will be held for Hollister residents at the Hollister Elks Lodge 1436, 351 Astro Drive, on April 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. both days. Beg and borrow: The Monterey Peninsula Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a “beg, borrow and deal” event to raise money for local schools and the Children’s Miracle Network. The fund-raiser is for high-school students in teams of three. The last weekend in April, teams will complete tasks on a list, similar to a scavenger hunt.

Scholarships: California Women for Agriculture, Salinas Valley Chapter will be offering two scholarship programs for women in or from Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. The scholarships, women pursuing degrees in agriculture and daughters of farm workers, will be awarded to women pursuing a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree or a degree from an accredited trade school. United Way: The United Way of San Benito County announced its annual call for funding requests. Moving Wall: The Hollister Independence Rally Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hollister Post 9242 is announcing the Moving Wall exhibit to be on display at the old Fremont School from June 30 to July 5. The memorial will be open around the clock. HIRC and the VFW are looking for volunteers to help setup the event and the manning of the memorial around the clock. Path of Excellence: Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage announced its second annual scholarship program benefiting students in Silicon Valley high schools. Ten students from Santa Clara and San Benito county high schools will earn a $2,000 scholarship. Students interested in being considered for the scholarship program should talk to their guidance counselor or principal. The deadline for returning applications is Friday, March 12.

Bonfante Gardens: Bonfante Gardens is looking for people to join their Docent population. Previous horticulture experience of any sort is a bonus, but definitely not a requirement. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: There will be a noon reception Monday, March 8 for volunteers interested in starting up a San Benito County chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The guest speaker will be Dirk Holkedor, who is the Regional Director for the Western U.S. Habitat for Humanity. Holkedor has worked with Jimmy Carter in the past. Community Grange: Legendary songwriter and performer Steve Gillette along with traditional singer and musician Cindy Mangsen are the headline performers for th Aromas Community Grange’s new concert series. The event is Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Aromas Community Grange Hall located at the corner of Rose and Bardue streets in Aromas. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for students and $6 for quiet children under 12. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 6 p.m.
