Hollister police arrested a local man accused of burglarizing a home after a resident alerted authorities to it, according to police.
At about 10 p.m. Saturday, a woman walking in the 900 block of San Benito Street heard glass breaking and she noticed a man entering a home through a window, according to a statement released Tuesday.
Hollister police officers, with the assistance of San Benito County Sheriff’s Office deputies, surrounded the house. Police approached the home and ordered the man to come out, according to the police statement. The suspect jumped through a window, ran through several back yards and out onto East Street, where police caught him.
Police arrested the suspect, Carlos Ureno, 33, of Hollister. Ureno suffered an injury to his shoulder when he jumped out of the window, according to police. He was treated at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and then booked into the San Benito County Jail on recommended charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest.
According to the statement, the police department “recognizes and thanks the citizen who promptly called 911, and encourages anyone who witnesses a crime to report it as soon as possible. In this case the citizen’s quick actions greatly contributed to the efforts in keeping our community safe and crime free.”
