The Hollister chapter of Weight Watchers has donated 410 pounds of food products to the Community Food Bank as part of Weight Watchers’ Lose for Good campaign that took place from Sept. 5 to Oct. 23.

Participants donated a pound of food for every pound they lost during the two months, Location Coordinator Cathy Engles said. Nearly 80 members participated in donating canned and packaged foods to the food bank. The national Weight Watchers donated a dollar for every pound lost.

In total, Weight Watchers donated nearly $1 million nationally, according to its website.

Because of its local success, the local organization plans to do a similar food drive in January, Engles said.

“It’s important to give back to the community we live in,” she said. “We need to help someone else out.”
