Opening of the new Highway 25 bypass may happen sometime next week following an official ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for Monday.

Council of San Benito County Governments officials have scheduled the ceremonial ribbon cutting for 3 p.m. Monday at the bypass between East Park Street and Hillcrest Road. Transportation Planning Manager Mary Dinkuhn, meanwhile, said the agency anticipates opening the road that week.

“We set this date and we anticipate the contractor’s going to be substantially complete by then,” she said.

There will be signs at the ribbon cutting for parking, and Dinkuhn expects representatives from the county board, city council, COG board, chamber of commerce, Hollister Downtown Association and Congressman Sam Farr’s office to attend. She said the public also is welcome to attend.

The 2.6-mile stretch extends east from the San Felipe Road intersection about a quarter of a mile then runs south crossing Santa Ana Road, Meridian Street and Hillcrest Road. From there, the bypass becomes a six-lane roadway and connect with Airline Highway at the Sunnyslope-Tres Pinos Road intersection.
