“What I Did in Summer Camp” Original artwork created by children attending the Monterey Museum of Art’s summer Art Discovery Camp will be on display through Oct. 10 in the Youth Art Gallery at the museum, 559 Pacific St. The camp sessions introduced art projects focused on themes of pirates, treasure and imagination as well as art and nature, bookmaking and journaling. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military personnel and children under 12 years of age are admitted free. Circle of Reflection This month’s Circle of Reflection program, offered by the Hollister Japanese Temple Gardens, will focus on “Loss/Grief – The Woodcutter Tale.” This program will be presented by Don Belt. Cherry’s Jubilee The 16th annual Cherry’s Jubilee Motor Sports Festival begins today at Laguna Seca Recreational Area and Raceway and outlying areas of the Monterey Peninsula. This “oldies” party includes a car show featuring classic cars, motorcycles, sports and special interest cars, working show trucks and family entertainment. Cars will cruise along Alvarado Street and Fisherman’s Wharf tonight from 5:30-9:30 p.m., and other activities include a pancake breakfast Sunday, Sept. 7 from 7-10 a.m. and a poker run beginning at 8 a.m. today. Registration for the poker run closes at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 60 years of age and over and $5 for children 6-12 years of age. Children ages 6 years and under are free. General admission tickets can be purchased at Laguna Seca the day of the event, which concludes Sunday, Sept. 7 with the annual Sunday Night Block Party on Cannery Row. Renaissance Faire The 2008 Northern California Renaissance Faire opens today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. This one-of-a-kind event, hosted by Play Faire Productions, introduces visitors to exciting world between 1490 and 1630 by providing a living history event that includes live comedy, improvisation, music, dramatic performances, pirate invasions, and a Celtic weekend.
The faire will run weekends through Sunday, Oct. 12. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 5-12 years; children 5 years of age or younger are admitted free. Santana exhibit Santa Cruz County Bank will host an artist’s reception in memory of Manuel Santana tonight from 5-7 p.m. at the bank’s Watsonville office, 595 Auto Center Dr. The reception kicks off a solo exhibit of Santana’s work in four different Santa Cruz County Bank offices. The exhibit will feature 60 original works of art by Santana, who was named the 2008 Artist of the Year for Santa Cruz County.
