“La Carpa de los Rasquachis” El Teatro Campesino will present “La Carpa de los Rasquachis” tonight at 8 p.m. at the group’s playhouse, 705 Fourth St. The play, written by Luis Valdez, recounts the tale of the Chicano farm worker in America. The show will run weekends through September 21. Show times are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and $8 for children 12 years and under. All seats on Thursdays are $5. Opening night admission is free although donations are appreciated. County Fair The Monterey County Fair will conclude this weekend at the county fairgrounds, 2004 Fairground Road. In addition to the relocation of an updated Community Stage, other events include an all-new Kids Area with free hands-on entertainment such as Mother Goose’s Farmyard Fun, Circus Imagination and the Busy Bee Dog Show as well the “Ride the Wave” themed 25-ton sandcastle created by Sandscapes. The finished sandcastle will be on display Sunday, Aug. 17. Daily wine tasting, showcasing gold medal wines of the fair’s Wine Challenge, will be held from 3-9 p.m.
Admission to the fair is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children ages 6-12 years. Children 5 years of age or under are admitted free. A Carnival Fun Pack, with a pay one price wristband, is $25 per person, not including admission. Admission to one wine tasting event is $25 per adult. “Urinetown the Musical” The Monterey Peninsula College Theatre department presents “Urinetown: the Musical” tonight at 8 p.m. at the Morgan Stock Stage at MPC, 980 Fremont St. The show is set in a town plagued by a 20-year drought, where water has become so scarce that private toilets are unthinkable and one large corporation has a monopoly on the town’s amenities. The show will run Thursday-Sunday through Aug. 16. Thursday shows begin at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

“Rock the House” The First Presbyterian Church of Hollister presents “Rock the House and Praise the Lord,” a concert featuring the FPC Praise Band and Singers, tonight beginning at 7 p.m. at the church, 2066 San Benito St. The concert will feature a variety of worship music including contemporary, gospel and rock and roll. A freewill offering will be collected.

Birds of Prey Meet a real raptor and learn which ones live in the Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear County Park today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Coyote Lake Ranger Station. Cheer Golf Challenge The 2008 Baler Cheer Golf Challenge, sponsored by the San Benito High School Spirit Squad Boosters, will be held today beginning with a noon check-in at San Juan Oaks Golf Club. Tee off is at 1 p.m. followed by dinner and a live auction at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $135 per person or $500 for a foursome. Proceeds will go towards training and competition for the 2008-09 cheer season. Anniversary Celebration Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park will celebrate its 75th anniversary today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a variety of “county fair” activities held in the park’s day use lot. Activities include community booths, children’s games, educational displays about the Civilian Conservation Corps, guided walks, a campfire program and food provided by the Big Sur Lodge. There will also be a display about the recent Basin Complex fire. Although the campground is already full for the weekend, there will be free day use parking for this one-day event. Aromas Day Spend “A Day in the Country” during the annual Aromas Day event today beginning with a country-style breakfast at the grange hall at 7 a.m. The Aromas Hills Artisans will host “Art in the Park” at 9 a.m. Other activities throughout the day include live music, pony rides, a farm animal petting zoo, kids’ games and a rock climbing wall. A parade featuring tractors, classic cars, horseback riders and more will begin at 2 p.m. Upon arrival in Aromas, follow the signs to the off-site parking lot and receive a free ride on a horse-drawn wagon to the event. Cherry’s Jubilee The 16th annual Cherry’s Jubilee Motor Sports Festival begins today at Laguna Seca Recreational Area and Raceway and outlying areas of the Monterey Peninsula. This “oldies” party includes a car show featuring classic cars, motorcycles, sports and special interest cars, working show trucks and family entertainment. Cars will cruise along Alvarado Street and Fisherman’s Wharf tonight from 5:30-9:30 p.m., and other activities include a pancake breakfast Sunday, Sept. 7 from 7-10 a.m. and a poker run beginning at 8 a.m. today. Registration for the poker run closes at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 60 years of age and over and $5 for children 6-12 years of age. Children ages 6 years and under are free. Renaissance Faire The 2008 Northern California Renaissance Faire opens today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. This one-of-a-kind event, hosted by Play Faire Productions, introduces visitors to exciting world between 1490 and 1630 by providing a living history event that includes live comedy, improvisation, music, dramatic performances, pirate invasions, and a Celtic weekend.

Wine and Art Festival The 26th Annual Capitola Art & Wine Festival begins today at Capitola Village by the Sea.
