Vaquero Heritage Days

Vaquero Heritage Days will be Aug. 20-21 in San Juan Bautista inside the Mission’s Casa Maria. The first California Vaquero Show to be held on historic Mission grounds. The event will celebrate, educate and raise public awareness of the California vaquero with selected artisans, gear makers and historians exhibiting and selling their wares, sharing knowledge and skills influenced by early vaquero techniques – saddles, gears, rawhide riatas, bits, spurs, jewelry, books, fine art and more. ‘Rent’ premieres on the Central Coast

Ansel Adams: Portrait of America

Ansel Adams: Portrait of America is on display at the Monterey Museum of Art-La Mirada located at 720 Via Mirada in Monterey through October. The exhibition is the first world-tour stop for the largest collection of iconic photographs to be seen in one place. Music in the Park

The San Benito County Arts Council, the Community Foundation of San Benito county, the California Arts Council and Centro Ollin (Center for Working Artists) are sponsoring Music in the Park Aug. 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dunne Park, in Hollister. The event is free to the public and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnics. Artists include Daniel Valdez (Chicano Folk and Traditional), Mike Anotti (Reggae Soul Acoustic), Gallop Away (Violin and Cellist), Mariachi Alma de Mexico (Mariachi, youth ages 7-18) and Somos (Funk and Soul.)

Hollister Kiwanis and Key Club yard sale

The Hollister Kiwanis and the San Benito High School Key Club will host a yard sale Aug. 21, from 7 a.m. until noon or 1 p.m., at the Bertha Briggs Youth Center, 1221 Memorial Drive, near the Vets Park Skate Park. Aquatint etchings on display at Mission Gallery

Mission Gallery will display aquatint etchings by Stephen McMillan Aug. 21 through Oct. 2, 106 Third St. in San Juan Bautista. The etchings are original prints pulled from copper plates that have been drawn freehand and etched with acid. Movies in the Park

The Plaza History Association presents Movies in the Park. Screenings include “Shane” on Aug. 27 and “Vertigo” on Sept. 24. The Showtime will be sunset. The event will be held at San Juan Bautista State Historic Park Plaza Lawn located at 19 Franklin St. Refreshments and snacks will be available at the Park stable. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. The will be a blanket area towards the front with a low back chair seating area toward the rear of the lawn. It is encouraged to dress warmly. The YMCA of San Benito County will hold its 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at San Juan Oaks, Sept. 17, with a dinner and dance to follow. Civil War Days

The National Civil War Association and the San Benito County Historical Society is hosting Civil War Days Sept. 18 and 19, at the Tres Pinos Historical Park, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
