‘Corridos! Tales of the Mexican Revolution’

El Teatro Campesino presents a special engagement of “Corridos! Tales of the Mexican Revolution” through Oct. 17, at the El Teatro Campesino Playhouse, 705 Fourth St., in San Juan Bautista. Movies in the Park

The Plaza History Association presents Movies in the Park. The last screening is “Vertigo” on Sept. 24. The Showtime will be sunset. The event will be held at San Juan Bautista State Historic Park Plaza Lawn located at 19 Franklin St. Refreshments and snacks will be available at the Park stable. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. The will be a blanket area towards the front with a low back chair seating area toward the rear of the lawn. It is encouraged to dress warmly. The hike is free and is two-miles long. Guests can meet at the north gate trailhead east of San Juan Bautista and should dress for warm weather on the lower elevations and cooler weather on the upper elevations. Carole Belliveau show on display

Ansel Adams: Portrait of America

Ansel Adams: Portrait of America is on display at the Monterey Museum of Art-La Mirada located at 720 Via Mirada in Monterey through Oct. 3. The exhibition is the first world-tour stop for the largest collection of iconic photographs to be seen in one place. Northern California Renaissance Faire

The Northern California Renaissance Faire will be held at Casa de Fruta, off Hwy. 152, weekends through Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a different theme each weekend starting with Pirate Invasion this week, followed by Bacchanal Masquerade, Celtic Weekend and Oktoberfest. There are a variety of stages and arenas that will provide entertainment such as Punch and Judy Shows, jousting, sword fighting and more. Vendors will sell a variety of foods and merchandise. There will be a Celtic rock concert at 6 p.m. on Saturdays, free with the cost of faire admission. This week’s performance will be by Culaan’s Hounds, followed in the coming weeks by the Young Dubliners, Molly’s Revenge and Wicked Tinkers. The Monterey Bay Master Gardeners will host their 13th Annual Masters Tour, showcasing gardens in Santa Cruz, Capitola and La Selva Beach. Robrock retrospective opens

The Blak Sage Gallery will host ‘John Robrock Through the Ages: a retrospective look and examination of life influences” Oct. 1-28, 727 San Benito St., in Hollister. Robrock, who has an MFA, teaches drawing and painting at San Benito High School. The exhibit will feature 50 framed works of art arranged chronologically, reflecting life phases, including some nude life drawings. Other common themes in the work include cowboys, portraits, Native Americans and landscapes. Circus at Le Petit Trianon

Arts Council Silicon Valley will host Circus at Le Petit Trianon, a fundraiser, Oct. 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., in downtown San Jose. The event will include fun, food, libations, live performances, carnival-inspired games with an artistic twist and a silent auction. The San Juan Bautista State Historic Park will host Living History Day Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Living History Day is hosted on the first Saturday of every month. Great Sand Castle Contest

The 50th annual Great Sand Castle Contest will be held at Carmel Beach, between 10th and 12th, Oct. 3. The event is cosponsored by the American Institute of Architects- Monterey Bay Chapter and the city of Carmel-by-the-sea. The theme will be announced two weeks before the event. Registration takes place on the beach before the event, and builders can begin work on their castles at 8 a.m. Judging will take place from noon to 2 p.m.

The YMCA of San Benito County will host the Harlem Starz basketball team for a game against one of the Hollister city recreation department’s adult basketball league teams Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Marguerite Maze Middle School. Roy Eaton, of New York City, will give two piano recitals on the Monterey Peninsula. The first will be Oct. 8, at 8 p.m., at the Center for Spiritual Living, 400 West Franklin St., in Monterey. The second will be Oct. 10, at 3 p.m., at the Carmel Valley Community Chapel, at Paso Hondo and Village Drive. Both concerts have a suggested donation of $20 per person.
