Editor,
I am joining the throngs of local citizens protesting the establishment of casino in our area.
The current whining by the casino investors and Miwoks leads me to believe they are looking for any type of consideration by any Board or other public entity.
Do they believe this consideration would then allow them a foot in the door? Perhaps making it easier to kick in? I can hear it now :
“Well, we talked about that, we changed locations, we said we would contribute to the after-school programs for the kids who are forgotten by parents too desperate to remember to stop gambling to pick them up.”
Kudos to the supervisors who are listening to the majority of locals who would rather see the casino folks take the proverbial kick.
Let’s also not be blinded by the call for “great economic development” as Chris Vanni expressed in his letter to the editor on Feb. 5. This area is full of business owners who care more about people and quality of life than a quick buck.
Mr. Vanni writes that “Supervisors have a responsibility to constituents and local businesses to review without prejudice any and all real proposals brought before them.”
Mr. Vanni, don’t you as a local businessman and casino supporter have a responsibility to disclose your prejudice in regard to your camaraderie with the Game Won/Game Too Investor Group?
