Editor,

San Benito County is rich with artists. Every day there are filmmakers, writers, actors, dancers, sculptors, painters and musicians to name a few, who quietly (or in my case, not so quietly) go about their business of creating.

Mike Smith and so many others have spent countless hours working to revitalize and unify the arts in San Benito County. To that end, the reformation of the new Arts Council is a significant step in this process. I am thrilled that a downtown Hollister venue is being considered as an anchor. The arts are a wonderful way to drive business downtown. Additionally, it sounds like there may be public funding available (RDA) to renovate existing property. How wonderful to renovate both a structure and an infrastructure at the same time!

Thanks Mike Smith and all of those who have worked to revive the Arts Council of San Benito County. Thanks for providing the vehicle that will transport us to where we want to be.

Shannon Grissom, Hollister
