Prime agricultural land is a major county resource.
We don’t need to further chop up the land or pave it over.
Yes, farming is currently having a hard time. Apricot growers are hurt by cheap Turkish cots. Chinese garlic imports undercut garlic growers.
With the U.S.A. and world population growth, the supply of cheap food will decrease.
The U.S.A., once nearly self-sufficient in food production, is becoming more of a food importer. As our population grows, the availability of good farmland becomes even more crucial.
Good zoning is needed to preserve our agricultural productive land.
The San Benito County Growth Control Initiative adopted by the Board of Supervisors will direct growth away from our AP (agriculture productive) areas and closer to the urban area.
