The California Highway Patrol has determined the vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run last week is a silver or champagne-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee, made between the years 1994 and 1999.

Through investigation, CHP officers discovered the vehicle is a Jeep Grand Cherokee by matching up the tire tread on skid marks left at the scene, a piece of a headlight and a paint chip, said CHP Officer Terry Mayes.

The CHP is following up on some 911 calls that may or may not be related to the incident, but still have no leads on the driver of the jeep, Mayes said.

The hit and run occurred on McCloskey Road around 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, and killed Hollister resident Ray Villegas while he was walking in the middle of the road.

The CHP is also looking for a small white sedan they believe could be involved or witnessed the incident, Mayes said.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the incident or concerning either vehicle to call the Hollister/Gilroy California Highway Patrol at (408) 848-2324 or 1-866-502-5058.
