I want to talk about District Attorney John Sarsfield’s
involvement with ‘Los Valientes.’ Before he started his
investigation, the private investigator went to Sarsfield’s office
and discussed the pending investigation. Sarsfield actually
received the finished report in mid-August; hand delivered by the
investigator. Sarsfield sat on the report for two months, doing and
saying nothing publically. Why?
“I want to talk about District Attorney John Sarsfield’s involvement with ‘Los Valientes.’ Before he started his investigation, the private investigator went to Sarsfield’s office and discussed the pending investigation. Sarsfield actually received the finished report in mid-August; hand delivered by the investigator. Sarsfield sat on the report for two months, doing and saying nothing publically. Why?
The investigation was made public in a letter from Bruce Kiefert to the editor of the Free Lance on Friday, Oct. 10 – still nothing public from Sarsfield.
Attorney Michael Pekin filed the lawsuit on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 14. The media finally contacted Sarsfield, who just happened to be out of town in San Francisco. Sarsfield told the press he had ‘no comment,’ even though he had already told Richard Scagliotti weeks earlier that the allegations were groundless and a letter from him was forthcoming.
Wednesday morning, Oct. 15, after the story was reported on the front page of the Free Lance, pretending as if he had no prior knowledge of the investigation, Sarsfield finally came out with his letter denouncing the allegation in the lawsuit as BS. Now, the group and Sarsfield had built in deniability. The group could say they were ‘shocked’ that no charges were filed and Sarsfield could claim he did what was right – no harm, no foul. The problem is they got caught. Now it’s up to the Measure G people to try and put the toothpaste back in the tube. Remember the conversation between King and Dominguez?
Timing is everything. Had ‘Johnny come lately’ responded in September, as he should have, the lawsuit would have never been filed. Convenient? Coincidence? Conspiracy? Or was this political payback by Sarsfield for support he received in the last election? You decide.
I would very much like to sign this, but it would definitely cost me my job. Hope you print it anyway.”
“A comment to all public leaders – you need to do some soul searching and answer the question ‘Why did I run for public office?’ Have you forgotten that you are here to serve the residents of the county and not your own personal interests? I’m sick and tired of hearing and seeing the behavior that takes place once you folks get into office. The favors, vendettas, the public screw-yous and the flagrant abuse of your office for your own personal gain is unbelievable. Have you no morals, shame or self respect? I guess not. If you were my son or daughter, I’d smack some sense into you or knock the rocks out of your head, one of the two.
It seems to me that we are overlooking the simplistic approach to commenting on our leaders in public office.
So here are my comments on the following individuals:
Brian Conroy – Show up.
Tony LoBue – Shut up.
Tony Bruscia – Grow up.
Richard Scagliotti – You’re not leaving soon enough.
Ruth Kesler, Pat Loe, Bob Cruz – Shame on the three of you for not standing up to bullies.
John Sarsfield – Go back to Monterey County.
Curtis Hill – Too many skeletons in the closet make a mess!
And to our other political wannabe…
Mandy Rose – Politicians make strange bedfellows and when commenting to the newspaper, speak like a lady.
Kudos to: Robbie Scattini, Pauline Valdivia and Reb Monaco – You are in office to truly serve ‘the people.'”
“What’s all the worry over the Citizens Voice and Hotline? It was not intended to last forever. The Free Lance will eventually discontinue the column. However, we may have to wait until March 2004 or until its purpose is fulfilled. Thank you for printing this.”
