Let me explain Measure G. It’s the people saying both city and
county planning departments over the past 20 years have
demonstrated their inabilities or unwillingness to properly enforce
the zoning ordinances.
It all began in the 70s. The problem started with the city
allowing rural ag land to be annexed into the city. After the
annexing into the city, the land was rezoned commercial and
residential. Once in their new rezoned status, the once rural ag
land became concrete city with buildings and parking lots and
cookie cutter housing developments. Does Award Homes, Anderson
Homes, Creekbridge Homes ring any bells?

This was also the beginning of the decline in the city’s infrastructure. Next, the county planning department should have never allowed ag land to be split into one, two and a half and five acre parcels. Once these parcels were built upon, they were sold as “ranchettes.” This was the beginning of the destruction of county ag land. Take a look at North County and San Juan Valley. These “ranchettes” are too large to be properly maintained and too small to farm.
Measure G is already in place in the form of city and county planning departments. Measure G has been drawn up by frustrated residents to circumvent the planning department’s inability and unwillingness to properly manage zoning and annexing ordinances. As poorly mismanaged as our local planning departments have been over the past 20 years and still continue to be, Measure G will only compound the problems.”
“It’s a crying shame about the way the city manager is running the business here. They should throw him out the door – him and the whole City Council. They’re throwing out people there and they don’t even know what they’re doing.
What they need to do is collect the money from Las Palmas and the cannery – put all that money together and you’ll have enough to cover the budget. These people just aren’t thinking.
They’ve got Fire Chief Garringer – he’s going out and got grants for the fire department and saved the city a ton of money. They got a secretary out there that’s really been helping and working with the grants. They don’t know what they have. They’re going to get rid of people who they pay to do public safety that they shouldn’t get rid of, and at the police department also.
What they should do is get rid of the city council members’ wages – make them work for nothing; take Shaddox, get him out of here and take his wages; get Ornelas and take his wages.
Make those people pay for all the stuff that they’ve done. If they don’t do all this then they should have the grand jury come in and investigate where all this money and where all the people who gave all the money away to the RDA are at and what they’ve received. They should get rid of them and get some people in there who have some more intelligence. I think it’s a travesty of justice the way they’re running this city, and all these people should be chastised for it.”
“So now it’s joyous front page news when an unmarried 17-year-old high school drop-out gives birth to an illegitimate child fathered by a man who should be in jail for statutory rape.
All of Hollister should be proud that we are so well represented by such an upstanding couple in our community.”
“One of the selected finalists in the San Jose Mercury News’ recent word contest was ‘tediocrity – overexposure to mediocrity.’ How better to describe John Sarsfield’s first year as DA? And don’t forget all the heartache caused to the victims involved in the list of supposed Brady cases. All this time and not one slug defense attorney has given it a go? What does that tell you?”
