I don’t care how much money and publicity Hollister gets for
this event (motorcycle rally). It’s not worth the inconvenience it
brings to the people in this once peaceful and quiet community. It
is a holiday and the residents of this city should be able to enjoy
it in peace.

“A message to the governor and the California Legislature. Your job rating is so low, that if you worked for me I would terminate you.

You have failed to deal with the state’s financial problems. It appears there was a cover-up of the state’s financial facts a year ago before the election. Your conduct is no better than the executives of Enron, Worldcom, etc.

How can yo be 38 percent out of whack on the budget? Did this happen between election 2002 and the beginning of 2003? Who is watching the store? To get the budget under control, cuts are necessary right now. To prolong the situation by a sales tax increase to cover $10.7 billion payable over 5 years is unacceptable.

This is voodoo economics. What makes you think that the economy is going to rebound to a balanced budget the next year? Another carry-over to the future?

Keep this up and the sales tax will be up to 10 percent or more. We do not live in fairyland, we live in California. At no time do either party give any thought to your constituency. We elect you, pay you very generously, but you are so busy stabbing each other in the back that we are forgotten.

Before you ask the taxpayers to bail the state out of its financial crisis, you are going to have to bite the bullet. The hiring freeze is not enough. The entire bloated, overgrown bureaucracy needs to set an example. Cuts across the board on all program, no exceptions from the governor on down.

The per diem to the legislature needs to be cut in half, and the other half needs to be taxed. It’s income!

The perks such as the auto allowance, and the gasoline credit cards eliminated. Your salary is large enough to cover that expense, it’s one of the highest in the nation. Set an example.

I had to pay my own expense in my working life. The taxpayer should not pay for these kind of rewards. Close to a million could be saved.

Now, it’s past time for the governor and the Legislature to show some leadership. Do the job you were elected to do. Citizens are told to live within their income, the state will have to do the same.

If the recall qualifies for an election, Gray Davis should resign to save the $30 to $40 million election expense he is so concerned about. The Lt. Governor could take over. This is one area that should be given careful consideration.”
