The city on Monday canceled the planned meeting to discuss the potential cancellation of the redevelopment agency under a proposal from the governor.

City officials canceled the special meeting due to a staff member having a family emergency, said Geri Johnson, the city clerk, noting it has not been rescheduled yet.

Council members, acting as the redevelopment agency board, were set to meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St. According to the agenda, they were to discuss possible steps to take in light of Gov. Jerry Brown’s recommendation to dissolve the 400 or so RDAs throughout California, including Hollister’s.

It was part of a special meeting at which council members will discuss the governor’s proposal while also getting an oral report on the projected budget and planned projects for the next five years – an “implementation plan” that is a requirement of the state.

The governor’s plan would take property tax revenue that now goes to redevelopment agencies and shift it to “core local services.” City officials are unsure how much of that revenue would come back to cities in which it was generated – and with what strings attached – and how much would be kept by the state.
