Hollister engineer Mark Aguirre demonstrates a component of the ladder check that is performed weekly.

Hollister council members Tuesday approved the donation of a 24-year-old fire engine to a Mexican town’s fire department.
Council members approved the item 4-0. Fire Capt. Leo Alvarez presented the item for a donation to the department in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.
“They’re very excited about the possibility of a donation from us,” Alvarez said.
The resolution declared the 1990 Grumman engine a surplus item. The city used the engine for 24 years.
