YMCA donates to homeless shelter

The YMCA afterschool program students collected 43 pounds of recycled materials and donated the money they received from the recycling to the San Benito Homeless Coalition shelter. The students donated $43.51 as part of their service learning project for February.

Life Skills raises money for iPads

The San Benito High School Life Skill students collected recyclables such as cans and bottles to the program so that they could raise money to purchase an iPad for the classroom. Annie Goularte, a wife of the late Gary Goularte who works in one of the Life Skills classes, agreed to match the funds raised so that the program could purchase two iPads. The purchase of the second iPad was made through the Gary Goularte Life Skills Fund. The mission of the fund is to provide for the purchase of supplies and equipment for the Life Skills program that is beyond the scope of regular funds provided by the district.

Chad Haygood and Vanessa Camacho, of Gilroy, would like to announce the birth of their son Blake Dean Haygood. He was born Feb. 18, 2012 at Saint Louise Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds and was 19 inches long.
