Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a local resident
interested in the new construction on McCray Street, asked the
Crimson Crusader to find out what businesses would be moving into
the 25,000 square feet of commercial space near Albertson’s. Our
caller told the Crimson Crusader that the rumor mill had been
churning out dozens of ideas each day about what businesses would
be moving into the space.
Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a local resident interested in the new construction on McCray Street, asked the Crimson Crusader to find out what businesses would be moving into the 25,000 square feet of commercial space near Albertson’s. Our caller told the Crimson Crusader that the rumor mill had been churning out dozens of ideas each day about what businesses would be moving into the space.
The Crimson Crusader made a call to landowner Richard Scagliotti seeking an answer, but Scagliotti said he wasn’t ready to release the information to the public.
The Crimson Crusader also made a call to Bill Avera, director of the Hollister Redevelopment Agency, to see if he could shed any light on the project. Avera said he wasn’t sure what businesses would move into the commercial space, but cast doubt on rumors that an Appleby’s Restaurant would be setting up shop there.
Although the Hollister Planning Commission approved space for a new Kentucky Fried Chicken connected to the nearby Albertson’s, Avera said it was unlikely that any other restaurants would be moving in because restrictions on the property wouldn’t allow it. Avera guessed the buildings would likely house retail businesses, but said there probably wouldn’t be any national chain stores moving in.
Not seeing the light
Our next Red Phone caller, concerned about a large truck parked on his street, asked the Crimson Crusader if any city ordinances prohibited the parking of big-rigs on city streets. Our caller was specifically concerned with the truck blocking visibility of a nearby traffic light. The Crimson Crusader made a call over to Hollister Code Enforcement Officer Mike Chambless to find out.
Chambless said residents concerned about vehicles such as RVs, boats or big-rigs should contact the Hollister Police Department at 636-4330. The Police Department has the authority to tag vehicles and remove them from the street. If the tagged vehicle is not moved in 72 hours, it can be towed, Chambless said.
Nearly Turkey Time
Our final Red Phone caller of the week had a two-part question for the Crimson Crusader. Our dear caller first asked if the Crimson Crusader would be like to join her for a delicious turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
Unfortunately, the Crimson Crusader will not be able to attend. Our caller also asked what the Crimson Crusader was thankful for this year. Ho, ho, ho. Good question. The Crimson Crusader is thankful for Red Phone callers, the Hollister Public Works Department, the San Benito County Public Works Department, Hollister City Manager Clint Quilter and all of the other dedicated public servants who take the time to help the Crimson Crusader answer our readers’ questions.
