San Benito County’s transit system starting Tuesday will switch from using disposable tickets to reusable tokens in an attempt to reduce paper waste and printing costs.

The paper tickets have been used just once before being shredded, while the tokens can be used repeatedly, according to a press release from County Express, a subsidiary of the Council of San Benito County Governments.

Tokens and monthly passes can be purchased at County Express headquarters, 3240 Southside Road, or at the Local Transportation Authority office, 330 Tres Pinos Road, suite C7. Both are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If those times do not meet your needs, you can purchase tokens and passes by mail. A mailing address, daytime phone number and information on what you would like to purchase are needed.

For more information on buying tickets, the token switch or other transit matters, call (831) 637-7665.
