Joseph Amaral

MORGAN HILL

A Morgan Hill man had a baggie of methamphetamine in his pocket when he went to the police station to sign up as a narcotic registrant.

Joseph Amaral, 39, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance today, according to Sgt. Jerry Neumayer.

Amaral, who is on active probation for drug related charges, arrived in the lobby of the police station at 16200 Vineyard Blvd., to register as a narcotic registrant. When he was taken into the booking area to complete the registration process, his pockets were searched for weapons and paraphernalia. During the search, police found a small plastic bag, weighing about two grams, containing a white powdered substance in his front pocket. The substance tested presumptive positive as methamphetamine, Neumayer said.

Amaral was arrested and released later in the day. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review.
