A Gilroy woman was arrested for driving under the influence Monday night after she slammed head-on into another vehicle when she was allegedly travelling the wrong way on northbound U.S. 101 near Leavesley Road.

The California Highway Patrol said that Zyania Swenson, 21, merged from the northbound lane on U.S. 101 in a 2009 Chevy truck and began travelling southbound at an unknown speed.

Swenson collided into Keli Benko, 21 of Piedmont, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback at 7:20 p.m. Benko and Swenson were both taken to a San Jose hospital with moderate injuries.
The CHP is investigating the crash as a drunk driving case, according to CHP Officer Erica Elias.
