Performers reenact battles during last year’s Civil War Days.

Take a step back in time and commemorate California’s history in the Civil War with California Civil War Days and Nights at San Benito County Historical Park, Highway 25, one mile south of Tres Pinos.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 6 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 7, watch battles rage in the streets and experience camp and town life as it was in the 1860s. Entry fee is $10 per vehicle.
On Saturday, you’ll hear Jose Ramon Pico’s rousing speech that led to the creation of The California Native Cavalry, a Spanish speaking Union Brigade. Watch as Confederate sympathizers are rounded up and thrown in the town jail. At noon Sunday, watch or participate in a game of Rounders, the 19th century precursor to baseball.
At 7 p.m. Saturday, join in a Contra Dance to benefit the San Benito County Historical Society. Tickets for the dance are $20 and music will be provided by The Crabapples. Cake will be served, and beverages will be available for purchase. Modern dress OK, just no casual wear.
