Friends of the San Benito County Free Library and the Women’s Club of Hollister are again teaming up for a champagne and tea fundraiser on March 15, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at San Juan Oaks. The “Champagne Tea and Treasures” event will feature a silent auction and drawing, with traditional British tea refreshments served throughout the afternoon.
This year, Joan Sattler put up a display of miniature tea sets in the window of She’s clothing store in downtown Hollister to help promote the upcoming event. The items will be moved to San Juan Oaks on the day of the event. Shoppers who stop in to see the display at She’s will receive a 15 percent discount. There is also a display of teapots at the San Benito County Free Library.
Ruth Erickson, of the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library, recalled how Sheila Stevens, the owner of She’s and Heavenly Bakery, purchased many teapots at one of the previous fundraisers that are now on display at the bakery.
“It’s a great partnership,” said Jeannie Liem, of the collaboration between the Women’s Club and the Friends group to raise money for the library.
The Friends of the Library took the lead in organizing the event this year, but members from both groups are still working together to seek out auction items and coordinate the event.
“We are selling tickets,” Erickson said, adding that they were still collecting donations of silent auction items. “It seems to be that people who enjoy themselves bring more people” the next year.
Bonnie Wilkinson, who has been involved the last few years through the Women’s Club, said the event offers “good fellowship and good food.”
Guests to the lunch are encouraged to bring a raffle or silent auction item to receive a free ticket for the drawing. More raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Tickets are $30 and are available by calling 831-205-1373.
