Hollister – A house in the 1500 block of Diablo Drive and a car parked out front were hit by gunfire early Saturday in the city’s sixth drive-by shooting in seven weeks.
No one was injured in the shooting, which authorities believe was gang-related.
There were six drive-by shootings in Hollister in all of 2006.
Saturday’s shooting occurred at about 1:05am. Six shots were fired into the house and one shot into a Ford Crown Victoria parked on the street in front of the residence, said Officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.
Investigators found 9mm bullets inside the home, she said.
Five people were in the home at the time of the shooting, including an 18-year-old man police believe to be a Norteño street gang member.
Police suspect the shots were fired from a small black sports car.
The year’s first drive-by shooting, also gang-related, occurred Feb. 13, when a home in the 800 block of B Street was hit. On March 2, a second gang-related drive-by occurred in the 1100 block of C Street.
A third drive-by, which police do not believe was gang-related, occurred in the 800 block of Powell Street on March 4.
On March 9, a home on Plumtree Lane was targeted in a gang-related drive-by, and on March 11 a house in the first block of East Street was hit by gunfire in another gang-related incident.
No one has been injured in any of this year’s drive-by shootings.
