Gavilan College nursing students show off their decorated graduation caps before the graduation ceremony Friday.

Gavilan College students have nine more associate degrees for transfer that meet the requirements for guaranteed admission to a California State University.
“It’s a remarkable list, offering a lot of opportunities for our students,” said Kathleen Rose, the community college’s chief instructional officer, in a press release.
The new associate degrees for transfer in business administration, political science, Spanish and other subjects double those the community college already offers.
Students who earn associate degrees for transfer and meet other minimum eligibility requirements for a CSU are guaranteed admission, though they aren’t promised a particular campus or major as part of the deal.
The California State Legislature created this type of degree several years ago. It was meant to take the guesswork out of transferring from a community college to a four-year university, according to the press release.
