Police have identified a South County regular as a suspect who nearly ran over a police officer last Thursday during a routine traffic stop.

Pascual Nuno Martinez, 60 – who also goes by Efrain or Rafael Martinez – allegedly tried to back a stolen pickup truck over Officer Brad Kilpatrick and his police motorcycle during a traffic stop. Kilpatrick was knocked to the ground, with only minor injuries. Other officers pursued Martinez through Palo Alto neighborhoods.

Martinez abandoned the truck and stole another truck from a gardener working on the 300 block of West Meadow Drive. That truck was later abandoned in East San Jose. Police think he is now driving a gold Acura Legend.

Martinez is wanted for attempted murder of a police officer, auto theft and probation violation.

Anyone who sees him can call Gilroy police at 846-0350 or report him anonymously through the Palo Alto Police Tip Line at (650) 329-2190.
