Editor,
The article about the secretive committee to recall Jaime De La Cruz in the March 10 Free Lance raised some questions. The members want to remain anonymous because “members of the committee would feel threatened if their names were revealed.”
Is the group concerned that District Attorney John Sarsfield will have this anonymous group brought before his grand jury, as he has another anonymous group? Are they concerned that Sarsfield will initiate a lawsuit as he did to another anonymous group? Are they concerned about felony indictments that critics Sarsfield have received?
Meanwhile, there was an effort to close the “Recall John Sarsfield” headquarters on the corner of San Benito and Fifth streets through the city. This is the same location that was open for three months as the Bush/Cheney campaign headquarters. There were as many as 150 people in the building on Election Night. That was not a problem, probably because John Sarsfield was not threatened. The good old boys‚ are alive and well.
Then again, considering some of the near paranoid decisions made by District Attorney John Sarsfield, maybe the group is correct in wanting to remain anonymous.
