I would like to know why there is never anything said in the
Free Lance or the write-up or anything about the freshmen team at
Hollister High. They’re a really good team and nothing is ever
said.
CALLER 1: I would like to know why there is never anything said in the Free Lance or the write-up or anything about the freshmen team at Hollister High. They’re a really good team and nothing is ever said. It’s always our big ‘Balers, which we know they’re very good, but you know our little freshmen team really starts the barrels going for our big ‘Balers. So I think you should have a write-up at least once a week. Even if it’s just one little column, put something in the paper. Thank you very much. Bye.

GREEN PHONE: Well, Caller 1, we have been printing write-ups about the freshmen football team. Small ones, but they’re there nonetheless. We assume it’s football that you’re talking about. But the answer is going to be the same for our coverage of all non-varsity sports: We’ll do our best to get results in and give you a flavor of what the teams are doing, but we’re not going to cover those teams at the expense of other sports doings. We simply don’t have the resources for that. If the young high school athletes are good enough, they can expect strong coverage once they’re on the varsity teams. As it stands, we’re much more concerned with bringing you other interesting sports doings, especially Anzar High athletics.

CALLER 2: More SBHS Girls Golf PLEASE! They are varsity after all.

GREEN PHONE: We just want to make sure you knew we reported on each of the Lady ‘Balers four rounds to date, Caller 2. With photos twice, we might add. It doesn’t get much better than that.

CALLER 3: Anzar High School girls’ volleyball team has been playing very well. I have not seen any mention of Anzar volleyball or any other sport at the school in the paper. We do have another high school in our county.

GREEN PHONE: This is by far the most valid criticism of the week. You’re right, Caller 3. While we feel we’ve gotten off to a strong start in covering the ‘Balers, it has been at the expense of the Hawks so far. That won’t continue to be the case.
