Dear Editor,
In the opinion column “Miwok leader speaks,” on Feb. 10, it says “However, the board should understand that cutting off debate now may diminish its input as the project continues to evolve.”
Is this a veiled threat couched in politically correct terminology saying, “You had better play ball now or we will do what we want with your county and you won’t have anything to say about it?”
It looks like they plan to shove it down our throat regardless of what the public thinks.
I have been to three public meetings involving the Board of Supervisors and have yet to hear any compelling reason for a casino in our county. Why should any tribe be allowed to partner with greedy business men and go reservation shopping for casino property anywhere?
Casino’s are a one stop destination that decrease revenue to local restaurants and businesses, while increasing traffic and crime. The liabilities far outweigh any potential benefits.
There is another public Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday Feb.15, at 7pm at the Veterans Memorial building. Let’s all go and see for ourselves what develops during the public discussion.
