Re: Insight wants to purchase Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital
Trying to understand Insight is like taking a seat on a ferris wheel, where going round and round and up and down is scary. Some may find the experience thrilling, but eventually the rider gets nowhere.
Insight appears to be hoping that on one of the rounds they can grab a gold ring.
After Insight acquired three medical centers with many hospitals, it continued to negotiate a purchase with Mary Casillas, CEO at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.
In 2024, Insight had Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on its books as an approved sale for $60 million. Keep in mind that this $60M figure—an obvious undervalue—was settled upon as our hospital was supposed to be bankrupt.
That is another mismanagement ploy revealed.
Where did Insight come from and how did Mary Casillas meet these people? The mayor of Flint, Michigan when the city diverted municipal water from Lake Huron to the Flint River poisoning the citizens with lead contaminate, is now an executive with Insight and negotiating with Ms. Casillas.
Insight’s Dr. Jawad Shah has said that he wants to transform Flint, Michigan into “the next medical Silicon Valley.” He began in Flint by buying two hospitals and a medical mall of doctors’ offices and labs.
But then why did he move to Warren County in Ohio and purchase Trumbull Regional Medical Center and Hillside Rehabilitation Center in Trumbull County, Ohio?
Further activity took him to Chicago, Illinois where he acquired Trinity Health Systems for one dollar. It seems that this happened with political influence from campaign donations.
Since Trinity has been bled of management fees, unpaid property taxes have been accruing at a liability of $103 million with $113 million income. This bleeding of surplus funds has resulted in one of the three bankruptcy cases now current for Insight.
The big question is, why does Mary Casillas think that selling our own special hospital to Insight for a fraction of value is a good idea? It will be a cash cow for Insight but a catastrophe for the people of San Benito County. Obviously she should be replaced.
