The Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital’s Obstetrical Department was the recent recipient of the prestigious “Quest for Zero” award from BETA Healthcare Group for excellence in O.B. safety standards, according to an announcement from the hospital.

To meet the strict requirements established by BETA, a hospital must demonstrate 100 percent compliance with all elements of the program, according to the hospital.

According to the announcement:

Members of the hospital’s perinatal team, comprised of O.B. nurses and physicians, were required to complete 18 hours of eLearning and training focused on meeting specific quality of care criteria which included electronic fetal monitoring and analysis, team communications strategies, and emergency management in labor and delivery. The team then successfully passed an in-house survey by a Beta Healthcare Safety executive.

“I am so very proud of the O.B. nurses and physicians who worked so hard to achieve this recognition. It reflects the excellent care that is provided to our patients, said Maternal/Child Director Gloria Torres, R.N., in a press release. “Receiving this award acknowledges the level of service excellence Hazel Hawkins’ O.B. Department offers.”

Along with their pride in the “Quest for Zero” award, the O.B. staff is looking forward to moving into the new Women’s Center in the Spring of 2013. The Center will feature a state-of-the-art Birthing Center with 13 private birthing suites with hotel-like amenities for Mom’s, Dad’s and their visitors. The center will also include women’s imaging services such as digital mammography, bone density testing, and ultrasound in elegant, relaxing surroundings.
