Chiming in on summer dilemmas
Dear Lindsay,
Some of my friends are thinking about going to a tanning salon
now that it’s summer time and we want to spend lots of time around
the pool and at the beach. Is it good idea or harmful for our skin?
What about just hanging out in the sun a lot without sunscreen?

Chiming in on summer dilemmas
Dear Lindsay,
Some of my friends are thinking about going to a tanning salon now that it’s summer time and we want to spend lots of time around the pool and at the beach. Is it good idea or harmful for our skin? What about just hanging out in the sun a lot without sunscreen?
– From Searching for a summer glow
Dear Searching for a summer glow,
Tanning is nice, but can also be very harmful to your skin if not done properly. If you are going to go to a tanning salon, I advise you not to do it every day. But the worst thing you can do is go outside and not use protective sunscreen. This can cause cancer which is something you do not want. Not only do you want a natural tan, but you also want a HEALTHY glow. Use plenty of sunscreen, and make sure you stay hydrated as well. Too much sun can cause major health issues.
Dear Lindsay,
My mom is always bugging me because she says I spend too much time alone in my room. Sometimes I just want to be by myself to read or watch TV or be on the computer. How do I explain to her that nothing is wrong, but I just need to be alone sometimes?
– From Needs to be alone
Dear Needs to be Alone,
Tell her just that. I’m sure she remembers the times when she just wanted to be alone. Let her know that if something is wrong, then you will come to her, but for now it’s just crucial for a teen to have some alone time, just like I’m sure she would like as well.
Dear Lindsay,
Now that it is summer, a lot of my friends are throwing parties when their parents are away for the weekend and I know there will be lots of alcohol and stuff around. I really don’t want to drink, but I still want to hang out and have a good time with my friends. What should I do?
– From alcohol-free party girl
Dear Alcohol free,
It is good to know that it’s not all that glamorous to drink. It’s cool to go and hang out with friends and have a good time, as long as you know not to give into peer pressure. Also know the consequences if your parents find out anything they do not want to know. Don’t sneak around your parents, but let them be prepared. You know you’re not going to do anything, and that’s all that matters.
