Don’t panic when giving prescriptions
Dear Lindsay,
I have to do a presentation in front of my science class and I am super nervous. What should I do to prepare?
-Poor Presenter
Dear Poor Presenter,
The No. 1 fear in America is talking in front of people. Even as a performer, I still get nervous. It’s a natural thing. Many of us fear being laughed at, or the fact that people are staring at you can make you a little uneasy. Whichever case it is, there are a few things to remember when being in front of a group of people. Breathe. Makes sure to calm and pace your breathing. This will also help with you slowing down. When nervous, people tend to talk really fast. Slow down and relax because sooner or later, everyone has to present as well. Also, practice makes perfect. Practice in front of your parents and in front of a mirror. And lastly, never lock your knees; many people get nervous and clench their knees to stand up straight. This results into blacking out and fainting. Talk about calling attention to yourself.
Dear Lindsay,
My friend is always sending me text messages even though I asked her to stop because I go over my limit. What should I do?
-Over-texter
Dear Over-texter,
Constantly remind her that too many texts put you over and that you get in trouble. If she refuses again to listen to you, do not read the text messages she sends, and call her on your house phone, reminding her again that you go over sometimes. This way you’ll be on the phone talking, and it won’t get you in trouble.
Dear Lindsay,
One of my friends is always cussing and it makes me uncomfortable. A lot of people do it so I don’t really know how to ask him to stop. What should I do?
-No Swearing, please.
Dear No Swearing,
Cussing is one of those habits that are hard to break. Sometimes you can’t really control it. Let your friend know that it makes you uncomfortable and that you would like for them to try and tone it down.
Dear Lindsay,
I heard about the new vaccine for cervical cancer, Gardasil, and I think I want to get vaccinated. What should I know before I make my decision?
-Vaccine Friendly
Dear Vaccine Friendly,
I just finished my third and last installment myself. HPV (human papillomavirus) is a common STD that can lead to cervical cancer. Though there are many different versions of the virus, Gardasil protects you from the 4 major types. Even if you are not sexually active, getting the shot will better your chances of not getting it in the future. You take the first shot, and then come back in 3 months for the second, and then the last shot is in 6 months. Though the shot stings a little, it is a sure-fire way to keep you healthy.
Dear Lindsay,
I am a really tall girl, 6 feet), and I get really self-conscious around guys. What should I do?
-Too Tall
Dear Too Tall,
I have a friend who is around that same height and sometimes has the same problem. But the majority of guys like a girl who is tall. But also, confidence is the biggest plus. As long as you go up to a guy you like and show that your height does not affect you, it won’t affect him either.
