Hollister – The San Benito High girls’ water polo rolled over the visiting Carmel Padres 20-2 on Wednesday at home after building a 4-1 lead after the first seven minutes of play.
Hollister’s Katie Buzzetta got the scoring started with a nice shot on goal only 12 seconds after the match started. Moments later, Buzzetta snatched the ball away from a Carmel player and kicked it back to goalie Krista Maisonneuve, who sent it up the pool to a waiting jayme Telles, who then proceeded to blast it into the back of the Carmel net for a 2-0 Haybaler lead.
The ‘Balers didn’t let up at all in the second despite their 4-1 advantage. Shelli Reid scored right away to make it 5-1 moments before Buzzetta found her way through the Padres’ defense for another score.
Before the Camel team knew what hit it, the Haybalers pushed the score to 8-1 on a beautiful play that saw Reid place a pass perfectly in front of a driving Jarae Tozier, who made a nice pas of her own to find Kirsten Palm for the open shot and an easy score.
The match was pretty much in hand for the Haybalers at halftime as the home team led 12-1. But Hollister wasn’t quite done scoring.
The ‘Balers rattled off several improbable shots in the second half, including a perfectly-placed shot from way outside by Reid with only two seconds left on the shot clock to cap the scoring.
