Two Hollister residents are helping set the stage for Chicano Theatreworks presentation of “Lovedream” by Manuel Montez of Santa Cruz.
Ryan Terry, lightboard operator, and Alberto Lopez, stage properties, are Hollister locals who are helping bring the production to life.
“Lovedream” is a powerful image theater work that explores a day in the lives of a group of timeless humans going through the infinite routine of their day. It follows them from their awakening until their return to slumber. The image theater work reveals how the expression and giving of love is—at times—interrupted and severed. The work delves into the the mystery of pathos, catharsis and transcendence.
Image theater is a theatrical form created by Montez, which incorporates gibberish, dreamscape imagery, fractured sound and lighting, movement/choreography and expressionistic costume design. Montez is a co-founder and current artistic director of Chicano Theatreworks and has been creating original theater work with the company since its inception in 1993. He’s created 16 original works with the company, six of which have been image theater works.
