The Hollister Police Department is conducting a checkpoint for the holiday weekend, according to a statement from the agency.

The statement notes how the department will conduct the “DUI/Driver License Checkpoint” somewhere in the city on Friday.

According to the statement:

A DUI checkpoint is a proven, effective method for achieving this goal. By publicizing these enforcement and education efforts, the Hollister Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving. Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.

Funding for these activities is by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
