Teachers held signs at a February school board meeting.

Unions serving Hollister School District employees made public the articles they wish to discuss in upcoming negotiations for their 2015-16 school year contract, at the regularly scheduled board meeting last week.
The unions’ proposals—which had been formerly tabled—passed 4-0 for consideration last week, according to draft minutes from the July 28 meeting provided by Jesus Romero, the administrative assistant to the superintendent. Trustee Elsa Rodriguez was absent from the meeting, according to the minutes.
The Hollister Elementary School Teachers’ Association wished to re-open discussions of certificated salary and employee benefits, according to a letter from Cheryl Rios, the president of the group.
At the same meeting last week, the California School Employees Association made public their desire to discuss articles about leaves, compensation, health benefits and vacation benefits, according to the agenda packet.
Both unions’ initial proposals were tabled in June. At that regularly scheduled board meeting, Trustee Peter Hernandez had moved to approve the HESTA proposal for the 2015-16 year with more documentation, but the vote was 2-2 so it didn’t carry. The CSEA initial proposal was also tabled.
At the same meeting, the Hollister School District made public a proposal of a 3 percent increase in compensation for HESTA employees, with a 1 percent increase to take effect July 1, 2016, according to the agenda packet for the June 23 board meeting. There were no proposed increases to the district’s health and welfare contribution of $14,536 effective Oct. 1, 2015, according to the same document. The district made the same offer to CSEA employees.
