A four -run first inning and a complete game by Mario Canela sparked the Major Division Little League Hollister All-Stars to a 4-1 victory over Gilroy on Monday.

With the win, Hollister stays alive in the loser’s bracket, setting up an elimination game with Los Altos at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Watsonville’s Ruso Field.

The victory was the second win against Gilroy in the sectional tournament, knocking out the regional rival. In the tournament-opening game, Hollister beat Gilroy 9-0.

Hollister continued its strong pitching Monday night, as Canela threw six innings, allowing four hits and one run. Canela also struck out five batters and walked three.

Hollister’s lone offensive rally started in the first inning after Mason Marquez drew a walk. Shortstop Drew Williams and first baseman Ryan Quinby followed with singles.

With the bases loaded, Isaiah Bueno and Garrett Bourdet drew back-to-back walks, knocking in Hollister’s first two runs. Mario Canela drove in the final two runs with an RBI single.

With a win Tuesday night, Hollister would advance to the championship game against Aptos. Hollister would need to win two games to eliminate Aptos.

Hollister lost to Aptos on Sunday 18-1.
